People are spending more time on their phones than ever before. Some are even too busy looking at their smartphones while walking to look where they're going. Concerned about this issue, a South Korean industrial design student has come up with a solution.

Paeng Min-wook, 28, has developed a robotic eye he calls "The Third Eye" for smartphone users who can't take their eyes off their screens — or "smartphone zombies" as Paeng calls them. The device is worn on the head and allows smartphone users to walk around safely while texting or browsing the internet.

Research Finds Most Couples Start as Friends

Researchers from Canada's University of Victoria and University of Manitoba have found that two-thirds of couples start as just friends. The researchers used data from about 1,900 people who completed seven different surveys between 2002 and 2020. Most of the surveys were of people living in Canada, but two surveys included people living in the US too. Sixty-eight percent of participants said their current or most recent romantic relationships began as friendships. This was instead of relationships starting when people met online or at social events, for example.

The results didn't change much for different genders or education levels. However, among those under 30 and people in the LGBTQ community, around 84% (eighty-four percent) of couples started as friends. The researchers also asked about 300 university students how long they were friends with their partners before becoming a couple, as well as how they preferred to start relationships. Students who started out as friends with their partners spent an average of about 22 months as friends before starting a romantic relationship. Most of the students also said they didn't start these friendships because they were looking for a partner.

An outdoor infinity pool in the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates has broken the Guinness World Record for being the highest in the world. But you might be afraid to swim in it!

At nearly 95 (ninety-five) meters, the pool is almost as long as two Olympic-size swimming pools and is 16.5 (sixteen point five) meters wide.

The pool is for resort guests only. But those who don't want to book a room can book a table at the Zeta Seventy Seven restaurant, which is on the same floor as the pool, to at least enjoy the same view. The Address Beach Resort's infinity pool joins other high pools like Singapore's 200-meter-high Marina Bay Sands infinity pool, and the indoor pool on the 118th (one hundred eighteenth) floor of the International Commerce Center in Hong Kong — at almost 469 meters high, it's the world's highest swimming pool inside a building.

While not nearly as high, a new transparent swimming pool also recently opened in South London. It was built about 35 meters above the ground between two apartment buildings. A woman who lives in one of the buildings told the Evening Standard that swimming in the transparent pool was like "floating in the air."

Just in time for World Emoji Day, software giant Adobe recently released its Global Emoji Trend Report 2021. And the top favorite for both women and men is the “face with tears of joy” emoji. But the rest is different. In second place for women is the 'red heart emoji' while it was the 'thumbs-up emoji' for men. However, the thumbs-up emoji was the third choice for women, while the men, surprisingly, picked the “anxious face with sweat” emoji as their third choice.

Surveying 7,000 emoji users for 15 days in February across seven countries – the U.S, U.K, Germany, France, Japan, Australia, and South Korea – the report also showed the top three “best” emojis when it comes to showing feelings at someone you like.
